DA Bots Take the GA FTC Competition

Date: 11. 1. 14
Time: 17:50
Location: Greenwich Academy, Greenwich CT

Today the Deerfield FTC robotics team, DA Bots, had their second competition of the season.  The competition was held at Greenwich Academy, my old school.  We had a great day, connecting with other teams from the Fairfield County area, including my old team!

We had a very successful interview.  Everyone in our group participated equally and we did a great job explaining our story to the judges.  We also were able to give a detailed explanation of the robot's functions, and the judges were impressed by our ingenuity and compact design.  We left the judging room feeling great.

During competition, we were given great alliance teams and had great rounds.  On one round, we had a bit of a mishap when our robot totally got jammed and wouldn't move, but the other rounds went off without a hitch.  The other teams were very impressed with our hanging mechanism.  Our robot was able to get really high off the ground on the hanging bar, allowing our alliance team to hang their robot under ours on the bar as well, doubling our points.  For our final round, we had the Greenwich Academy team as our alliance partner.  We had a great round, our best round in fact!  It was a great way to finish off our long day of competing.

Unfortunately, I had to leave the competition before the awards ceremony to go to a late night field hockey tournament, but I got some great news while driving.  Our team had won the third place Inspire Award!  The Inspire Award is the highest honor given at an FTC tournament.  As one of the award recipients, we automatically qualified for the Connecticut State Championship, which will be held at Greens Farms Academy on the first weekend of Spring Break.  Better start getting ready!
